WASTEWATER BIOLOGICAL TREATMENT

w3Synergy works alongside its partner firms in the design and supply of packaged wastewater recovery and reuse systems. w3Synergy’s portfolio is comprised of treatment technologies that address the relevant constituents of concern within process, grey and black wastewater.  Biological treatment reduces BOD, COD, TSS, ammonia, nitrates and phosphates in the wastewater.

Membrane Bioreactor (MBR)

MBR is state-of-the-art pre-engineered portable sewage treatment system utilizing biological treatment along with submerged membrane technology. It consists of an activated sludge process which substitutes microfiltration membrane modules for the clarifier. The membranes serve as microbial barriers that can capture most of the biomass for recirculation inside the bioreactor.  The MBR membrane modules are submerged directly within the bioreactor.

Standard w3Synergy MBR systems feature:

•       Membrane tank (s)

•       Anoxic and Equalization tanks

•       MBR Membrane modules

•       Filter Screens

•       Transfer pumps with VFDs

•       Blowers

•       Bubble diffusers

•       Chemical metering pumps

•       Mixers

•       CIP system

•       Control valves

•       PLC Controller with user interface

•       Instrumentation (pressure, temperature, flow, pH, level, DO)

•       Mounted within portable shipping container(s)

Fixed Bed Bioreactor (FBBR)

FBR is a biofilm process using fixed bed material on which the biofilm grows. Nano-particulate coating on the fixed bed creates a multitude of attachment sites for the biomass.

Wastewater is gravity-fed down through the bed.  Natural convection supplies the organisms with sufficient air. The rising air causes a current that, owing to the geometry of the fixed-bed material used, results in the contents of the tank being completely mixed.  Oxygen diffuses within the biomass from the air side to the liquid side. At the same time, nutrients diffuse through the biomass from the liquid side to the air side. The process is known as counter diffusion and works 4 to 5 times faster than oxygen diffusion.

The FBR system typically has lower O&M costs than any other wastewater treatment process.

w3Synergy supplies bioreactors that are modular and compact in design with a small footprint. This means units can be installed within the facility’s available footprint.

Moving Bed Bioreactor (MBBR)

MBBR is a biofilm process using thousands of polyethylene carriers operating in mixed motion within an aerated tank. Bacteria attach and grow on these carrier particles developing a biofilm on the free moving particles. There is no return line for sludge; the MBBR eliminates the return activated sludge (RAS).  Sludge settlement is required after the bioreactor in the form of a clarifier such as lamella technology.

MBBR media can be used to retrofit existing activated sludge tanks in order to increase its capacity.
