What We Can Do
In addition to process water, nonproduct water demand within the plant including clean-in-place (CIP), utilities (steam boilers, cooling towers), and manual cleaning & sanitation account for a significant proportion of the overall water usage.
The impact of climate change such as droughts and water shortages is viewed as one of the primary threats to manufacturing businesses. In response, manufacturers are proactively (or reactively) identifying alternative and supplemental feed water sources to supply their feed water needs. These alternate sources have impurities requiring some additional treatment beyond that of typical tap water.
w3Synergy exists to ensure our clients’ water loop is more sustainable and resilient to these impacts by reducing their exposure to rate hikes, changes in water supply source, quality, or allocation.
Process Water Treatment
Utility Water Treatment
To increase in the cycles of concentration (COC) of water within the cooling tower while reducing or eliminating the need for chemical conditioning, w3Synergy offers a range of treatment equipment alternatives.
-
Makeup water hardness can be removed using Softener media or Nanofiltration (NF).
-
Reverse Osmosis (RO) on the other hand is recommended for makeup water containing a high concentration of total dissolved salts and minerals (TDS).
-
Electrodialysis Reversal (EDR) and Capacitive Deionization (CDI) are other available options for removing TDS.
Sidestream Filtration & Disinfection continuously filters a portion of the cooling tower water to remove suspended solids (TSS), organics, and TDS; thereby, reducing the likelihood of fouling and biogrowth and helps control scaling and corrosion.
Water Reuse
Biotech manufacturers are viewing non-potable water reuse as a means of meeting the demand for water while lowering the surcharges for wastewater disposal/discharge.
Nonpotable reuse water can be used as makeup for cooling towers, initial rinse of CIP, cleaning exterior surface of equipment, washdown of floors, flushing of toilets and irrigation.
w3Synergy designs and fabricates wastewater recovery and reuse systems comprised of treatment technologies that address the relevant constituents of concern within the process or grey wastewater:
-
Suspended solids (TSS)
-
Biological oxygen demand (BOD)
-
Fats, oils & greases (FOG)
-
Dissolved solids, salts and minerals (TDS)
-
Anions, Cations (conductivity)
-
pH
-
Temperature
w3Synergy’s portfolio of water reuse technologies include the following processes:
-
Diafiltration
Manufacturing plants benefit not only from purifying and reusing their water but within certain facilities, there’s further economic incentive to recover and isolate byproduct(s), solvent, etc. Thermal energy otherwise lost to the environment can be utilized to heat incoming process or utility lines.
